A moderately intriguing beginning devolves into a didactic monologue regarding Etruscan religious practices followed by explicit sex and gratuitous violence. So sorry I happened upon this volume. No redeeming virtues.Product details

The Guardians of History K Book 1 edition by Elisabetta Cametti Scott P Sheridan Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Towards the beginning of this book there was a section where a man killed the woman's pet cat. It was so dark and disturbing that I couldn't read this section of the book. It was totally unnecessary to the story to write such a sick and perverted torture of an animal. It definitely took away from the book. I couldn't finish reading after the first or second page of the torture of this animal. I had to skip way ahead to avoid this part of the book. Because of this I have no desire to read any more of her work and I have been telling my friends about the sick part of the story.
Fans of stories like The Mummy, Indiana Jones, The DaVinci Code, etc., will like this one. Overall I enjoyed the main story but one particularly gruesome scene involving the torture of an animal nearly made me lose my lunch. Not sure that I'll read more in the series because of that.
A couple improbably drawn together after the sudden death of a friend face both the evil and greed of others against a world of mystery.
The story held my interest from the beginning, but it slowed down during discussions and narratives about ancient legends. But, without these parts, the reader would not be able to understand why the participants acted like they did. The characters were well developed, the plot had a few twists and turns, and the action moved well throughout the story. I even liked the ending!
Cametti handles words well, and ties up most of her loose ends. The plot was novel and entertaining enough to keep my interest throughout, with lots of twists and turns. Very violent, but the sympathetic characters all survived and the bad guys didn’t.
I don't normally review books - it is hard to describe what to me is a personal like/dislike. However, I almost stopped reading this midway, but I was curious as to how it would turn out. The characters are stereotypical and one-dimensional, and I prefer a more logical thought process for the main character. That's just me.
I would give it 2-1/2 if possible. There was so much detailed & repeated explaining of the what the guardians were and the gods etc., that I started just skipping over those parts. Guessing it was an attempt to explain how each of the characters interpreted the meaning and how each of the bad guys felt the power should belong to them. It had a number of typos, the ending was pretty anti-climatic and the puppies at the end were just too much for me.
A moderately intriguing beginning devolves into a didactic monologue regarding Etruscan religious practices followed by explicit sex and gratuitous violence. So sorry I happened upon this volume. No redeeming virtues.
